American students love spring break and some of them call it Easter break. But how did it come about ?
Spring break started some time in the 1950’s. Glendon Swarthout, an English professor at Michigan state, helped launch this popular vacation time. During the break, most students headed home to go to church with family; but when he overheard some students talking about going on a trip, he tagged along and then wrote a novel based on what happened. He named the book Where the Boys Are.
It became a blockbuster book, and then turned into a movie where the phrase “spring vacation” came from. Before this, spring break was just a time for students to go home and be with families. But now for college students, it is a time to party; and for high school students, it is a time get a break from school and time to be with friends.
